Controvento – Primatraccia Rosso 2019
Controvento’s 2019 Primatraccia is made of 75% Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon. The 20/25-year-old vines are grown on clayey limestone and were harvested manually. After destemming and crushing, the grapes macerated with their skins in amphorae for two weeks. Fermentation took place with indigenous yeasts, without additions. After pressing, the wine was aged for 8 months, again in amphorae. It was then bottled unfiltered and unfined, with no sulphites added.
About Controvento
Located in Rocca San Giovanni, a stone’s throw away from the Adriatic Sea in Italy’s Abruzzo region, Vincenzo Di Meo runs Controvento. His small winery is partially situated in a valley, where he tends to approximately 5 hectares of organically-farmed vineyards, all on calcareous soil. Enzo strives to work in the purest form possible, keeping his vines and wines free from chemicals and additives. All of his bottles display great tipicità, perfectly reflect the region’s terroir and are produced only, he says, ‘thanks to the land, rich in stones, and its exposure to the sun, the sea breeze and the meticulous work of man.’
