Controvento – Onda Anomala 2019

Controvento’s 2019 Onda Anomala is a rosato made of 100% Montepulciano, from a 20-year-old vineyard with a soil consisting of clay and shale. After a manual harvest, the grapes were directly pressed into steel tanks. Fermentation took place with indigenous yeasts, without additions. The wine was then aged for two months, again in steel tanks. It was then bottled unfiltered and unfined, with no sulphites added.

Controvento’s 2019 Onda Anomala has an intense pink color. Its nose reveals fruity aromas of blackcurrant, strawberry and pomegranate, followed by wild flowers. On the palate it’s medium-bodied, with fascinating texture and a slight effervescence. Strawberries, oranges, cherries, cranberries and a hint of oregano fill the mouth, making it fresh and highly drinkable. Its vibrant acidity begs for cheese, bread and charcuterie.

About Controvento

Located in Rocca San Giovanni, a stone’s throw away from the Adriatic Sea in Italy’s Abruzzo region, Vincenzo Di Meo runs Controvento. His small winery is partially situated in a valley, where he tends to approximately 5 hectares of organically-farmed vineyards, all on calcareous soil. Enzo strives to work in the purest form possible, keeping his vines and wines free from chemicals and additives. All of his bottles display great tipicità, perfectly reflect the region’s terroir and are produced only, he says, ‘thanks to the land, rich in stones, and its exposure to the sun, the sea breeze and the meticulous work of man.’
